Choosing a Word for 2013 - My first Time - How I went about it, and some links to download.

Hello Friends,

I had always heard about the New Year Resolutions but never ever had one. I some how either dint have time or could not box it up or define them. It felt a bit alien also because of the culture.

Yes I loved the w.w.w. for a long time but I was just a silent observer. Never been into interacting with fellow artists across the globe. But this year a whole new world has opened up for me. And that is when I discovered "The Word Of The Year" in various forums. It just felt like me. I had to do it. I went through a whole lot of posts and the links I am happily sharing with the original writers consent.

First I pulled an oracle card from the Goddess Guidance Oracle Card Deck on 12/12/12 at 12:12. The card I pulled up was "Hathor - Receptivity - Allow yourself to receive. This will increase your intuition, energy and ability to give others". But I had a nagging doubt and wondered it it was my current year? A lot of you have seen my previous posts and know I was so lucky to get loads of gifts in different giveaways. And it did sound a bit selfish and so not me. I kept it close to my heart but decided to trust it.

HOWEVER, OUT OF THE BLUE just when I was not thinking about it my word for 2013 came to me. It was "UNBLOCK". And I was like whaaaaat? what is even wrong with you. That's the beauty of this whole word a year. It can just pop up. But it felt like a big YES and I went on to choose it.

And just when I was snoozing today I asked one more time - and my muse doubted - babe it has a word lock in it eh? hope you wont concentrate on it? And a huge creative burst came up. And here is what I sketched (snooze went for a toss). This is just a scribble and will get final before the New Year begins. But I already adore it. I need to keep motivating myself so these kind of ideas help.

It falls in place, suddenly unblock is a two way street - you can share and receive.
Unblock - so you can channel your energies and communicate with the word that exists but is still new to me.
Unblock - so your fears can vanish and embrace new beginnings.

.... and it can go on. The angel wings(a reminder to ask the angels), the heart (love is everything) and the key (use to lock out the bad and key in the good) seem symbolic too like a reminder as the year goes by. The spiral and faces are what keep showing in my paintings anyways so they are there as a reminder.

I am sharing below a few links I came across from some lovely friends and hope it helps first timers like me. You can read the full post and all the links are available at the bottom.

RELEASE 2012 - FIRST

I loved Effy Wild's PDF called Release2012. Even though I dint have a word for 2012 I decided to go ahead and fill it in. And oh it was so helpful. Loved it. Just loved it. Visit http://wildsoularts.ning.com/ to download it. Its right on the home page and as generous as Effy is she has kept it free to download.

KEEP IT SIMPLE - ASK A FEW QUESTIONS

Before you choose I would love to share what Dale Ann Portter had to say. She helped me re-think and focus and re-question if my one word resonated with the questions. And they are important. She is available on http://daleannepotter.com/.

  1. Clarity - What do I really want?
  2. Should I really Change?
  3. What is the bright side or Positive side of all this?
  4. Am I comfortable with what I plan to do?
  5. Is this doing enough for me?
  6. Am I Happy where I am Today?
  7. How much value does this have for me?
  8. Does this motivate me?
  9. Do I need help to do this or take this?
  10. How will this help my students and clients?

CREATE YOUR OWN WORD

When you ask these questions the answers come in some creative ways at times like you might just end up creating your own word.

Kristine Kane has been selecting her word for years and has developed a unique style. May be she inspired my word to some extent. Though it is not new its kind of different. Here is a download from Kristine Kane
or read about why resolutions dont work in detail here on her latest blog post. I could resonate with it big time.

So if you feel you still have not chosen your word or you still have doubts go through the above links over a nice cup of coffee/tea, wine, sleep over it, day dream about and you will be ready before new year. Just don't try too hard. Easy does it. But choose your word carefully. Its an intent that goes down deep.

Do pop by later to see how the word has further shaped up.

Happy Word Hunting.

Love and Light.
Prerna
XO.

I love the word of the year idea. I have been doing it for a few years now. I find it incredibly interesting how once you choose your word for the year, it pops up everywhere in your life. My word for the year is 'explore'. I can't wait to see how it appears in my everyday life. Here is my recent blog post about my word.

What a wonderfully informative post about your experience of choosing a word for 2013. I loved hearing about the process you went through. I had a similar experience in regards to how my word finally came up. Not at first, when I deliberately "tried" to think about it, but later on, when I was just meditating and not thinking about anything in particular! The more I thought about it, the more appropriate and right it seemed to be. Good idea to blog about it. I think I will do the same very soon! Thanks for sharing this. xoxo

Arlene, I so agree it just pops up and takes us by surprise. Yes please share your experience. Would love to hear about it. It does look like what I call snooze could be meditation. LOL.

I really like your word for 2013. So many things can be said for unblocking... an obstacle, a road block. To overcome it is to give freedom to our creativity.

Jill Marie, Thank you so much for your comment. Just what I needed to hear as a re-confirmation about where I am moving into. So glad I happen to cross path with you Jill. You just said it bang on.

Thank you Ana. Your work is beautiful. And I am an introvert too mostly. Just once in a while I think the moon plays its tricks on me. LOL. That makes two of us. Love the vibrant butterflies.
